Yes! There really was a “Buckshot Babe!” Lillian Desmond was born in North Dakota, the youngest of a large family, and she was immediately nicknamed “Babe”. She taught in one-room school houses all over in early North Dakota and Montana, was a censor for the U.S. military in Panama, traveled extensively and even went to Russia when it was still under communist rule. Babe was a frontier lady of class! She was always a forward-thinker, a believer in education, a historian, a collector of beauty and memories. Upon her death in 1995, her handgun license from the 1940’s was found in her possessions… and thus was born the Legend of Buckshot Babe! In the spirit of her life, we have gathered this collection for your enjoyment! We hope you find a unique western treasure that will leave a lasting impression!

Buckshot Babe’s first retail location opened in February, 2004 in Wickenburg, AZ in the original Helm Bath & Barber Shop that was built in 1910. Today it continues to be run by Buckshot Babe’s two great nieces.

The Red Hat Connection…. If there would have been a Red Hat organization when Auntie Babe was alive, she would have been the Queen Mum! The second week of each February, in her honor, Buckshot Babe’s hosts a “Red Hat Rendezvous”! If you would like to receive information on this fun event, drop us an email!
